Invited to Chicago and DePaul University

We in Bolder have developed a unique and challenging business space for ourselves, and of course we wouldn’t want it any other way. It means that we must draw expertise from select communities, both local and global. Joe Chesak, our Chief Data Officer, recently travelled to Chicago to visit the future-focused folks in DePaul University. He gave presentations to students in the Masters program for Predictive Analytics program and at the research colloquium at the College of Computing and Digital Media. The presentation “The Power of Rich Data Modeling using a Graph Database” covered how tooling affects the mental models we use. And he worked through some nuts-and-bolts examples of alternative modeling techniques with a few tangible puzzles to discuss and solve.

The students, were a mix of business analysts, programmers, statisticians and architects by Joe’s impression, discussed topics ranging from human aspects of model creation to software architecture choices and trade-offs. And they were of course weighing their own work opportunities. DePaul’s is one few programs like this in existence, making these students the lucky few. They get to leapfrog old out-of-step paradigms and gain footing in the most relevant technologies coming into view now.
